Systems engineering coordinates the design and lifecycle of complex systems made of many parts — requirements, integration, reliability, safety, and verification. Where a discipline engineer focuses on one component, the systems engineer keeps the whole working: an aircraft, a power grid, or a spacecraft, balanced against cost, schedule, and risk.
