Materials science studies the properties and behavior of matter — metals, polymers, ceramics, semiconductors, composites, and biomaterials — and how those properties emerge from structure at the atomic and molecular scale. It develops the stronger alloys, lighter composites, and faster semiconductors that let every other engineering discipline push forward.
